WHICH EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM TO CHOOSE IN PAKISTAN?

Pakistan is one of those countries where there are several educational systems and not only children but their parents also get confused about this division. Firstly, there is the division on the basis of language/ mediums i.e. English and Urdu. Secondly, there is a division of private and government institutes.  Thirdly, we have a Madrasa system. Lastly, there are two types of syllabus including HEC and CIE. Above all, these systems not only differ by names but by fee structure too. So, which system is best for your kid?

 English Medium and Urdu Medium:

Pakistan’s national language is Urdu but the official language is English. Interestingly, people are focusing more on the English language despite knowing, their Urdu is also weak. Currently, the situation of Pakistan is that neither we are English Native nor we can speak our national language properly. Even if someone communicates in Urdu, the other person does not appreciate him but perceive if he is studying from Urdu medium institute. Why we are in such insecurities?

Both the mediums differ due to the medium of communication. Here, we should know that the aim behind going to school is to learn either in English language or in the Urdu Language. These languages do not make much difference but the school environment does. So, the parents should focus on the environment of the school and the medium of the school, simultaneously.

It’s not just the medium but the whole package of the school that the parents should consider while making such a decision.

Private Institutes and Government Institutes:

In Pakistan, people have a perception that private institutes are better than government institutes but what’s the reality behind it?

There are several developed countries where the education system is under the government and all children go to the government school. Contradictory to Pakistan’s case, children enjoy being there and the parents are satisfied too. Therefore, government educational system is not bad as a whole but it depends on the government that how it is fulfilling its responsibility towards its citizens. Somehow, it is a bitter reality that Pakistani government schools do not have many facilities and rarely have good teaching staff. Alternatively, the parents find private school better than a government school.

Madrasa System:

Pakistan is a Muslim country but the people do not accept the Madrasa system a good source to get an education. In this case, the child gets religious knowledge but they do not study the regular syllabus. Due to this, they lack behind in many ways. Why there is a trade-off?

HEC and CIE:

HEC (Higher Education Commission) and CIE (Cambridge International Examination) are entirely different from each other. The HEC is Pakistan’s educational authority to set the standardized syllabus for Pakistan whereas CIE is an international examination and deals accordingly.

No doubt, HEC has covered important contents in the syllabus but the children are asked to memories the course material rather than understanding the practical implication of it. On the other hand side, CIE compels the students to think outbox and put their own creativity. Therefore, CIE students become active, sharp and confident while HEC students stay reluctant to present their ideas.

WHICH EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM TO CHOOSE IN PAKISTAN?

The learning of HEC students and CIE student is different from each other but HEC tries to compare both the system. Therefore, CIE students have to apply for Equivalence certificates after completing O level and A levels. In this process, CIE students suffer due to HEC rules of Equivalence because of unfair means of Equivalence. Furthermore, it becomes difficult for them to get admission in government universities.

At last when CIE students get admission in any university then there are many other students from other educational backgrounds. CIE students can imagine well, what happens next to them.

Conclusion:

Ethics, culture, values, norms, and beliefs are much important than any language. Importantly, language can be learned at any phase of your life but these elements are far more important to live your life, peacefully. Apart from this, parents should save for their kids’ education rather than spending money on useless stuff and events. Above all, memorizing the course material never develops the mind of the child but stops them to be creative and shine in their own way. I guess, Pakistan has enough photocopy machines to copy the same text, again and again, we do not need our generations to become a photocopy machine. So, do not play with the future of your children, the best education is the best of all treasures that the parents can give it to their children.
