Pakistan’s first eclipse in 20 years

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, there will be an annular eclipse of the sun on Thursday, 26 Dec 2019. Pakistan’s first-time eclipse in 20 years.

“Ring of Fire”

Researchers have called it an “ideal celestial gift” as this time the moon will cover 97% of the center of the sun. As a result for a few minutes a “ring of fire” will appear in the sky.

In 1999, during the last eclipse, Pakistan witnessed, most of the radiation did not reach Earth because of cloudy skies. But however, this time the skies will be crystal clear and the impact of radiation will be direct.

A total solar eclipse is safe to look at as it is as much bright as the full moon. At all other times, however, you should only look at the sun by using pinhole cameras or solar viewing glasses.

Precautions

• Do not look at the sun with the naked eye during the eclipse, it may cause permanent eye damage or even blindness.
• It’s good to stay indoor.
