Skardu is a place where the temperature is moderate in summer and it covered up in snow in winters. The national animal of Pakistan markhor is common in this area. Skardu is full of beautiful and mesmerizing places. Besides the attractive places, this city also has a famous college which is well known for the quality of education and for the pre-training of future soldiers of Pakistan i.e Cadet College Skardu. People of Skardu are Intelligent, friendly and welcoming. So, without further ado let’s read about must visit places in Skardu, Pakistan.
1. Deosai:
Deosai is the second highest plateau in the world. It is 13,497 feet above sea level. Deosai means giant shadow, its a combination of two words deo and sai. Some people also call it the land of Giants. The path that goes for this place is often closed because of heavy snowfall that’s why it is only open for 3 to 4 months only in summers. The weather in Deosai is also unpredictable. You will find many wild animals and unique plants that you didn’t saw anywhere else. The place is so quiet, peaceful and close to nature.
2. Upper Kachura Lake:
Upper Kachura Lake is one of the beautiful Lake in the Skardu. It is 8,200 feet above sea level, surrounded by Himalayas mountain and is 2 km away from Lower kachura Lake. This lake has the 230 ft depth. Boating facility for tourists is also available here.
3. Lower Kachura Lake or Shangrila Lake:
Lower Kachura Lake is also known as Shangrila Lake. This lack is surrounded by many small hut cottages. This place is mostly visited by families. The aerial view of this place is also quite stunning as it’s like the shape of a heart. You can enjoy natural fruit jams made from the fruits grown in Shangrila. You can also visit the fuselage of crash aircraft there. It’s a must visit place for the families
4. Satpara Lake:
Skardu is full of natural freshwater lakes. Satpara is also one of them. It is 8,650 ft above the sea level. it also has a small island in the center. The main source of water in this lake is melting ice from Deosai plain. You can also enjoy boating in this clear water lake with your family.
5. Kharpocho Fort:
Besides lakes, Skardu also has few forts which represent history. Kharpocho Fort is also called Skardu Fort. Kharpocho means the king of the fort. It was built at the end of the 16th century by the king Ali Sher Khan Anchan. The history of this fort is very interesting which also shows that Mughal emperor Aurangzeb also tried to conquer this fort. You can enjoy the top view of the Indus river and Skardu city from this fort.
6. Shigar Fort:
Shigar Fort was built in the 17th century. You will appreciate the architectural beauty of this fort. It is known as the fort of rocks as it is built mainly with rocks. This fort also highlights the Baltit culture. The fort was restored in 2004 and is now used as a guest house and has almost 20 rooms.
7. Shigar Valley:
Shigar Valley is a Valley in Skardu which is 7320 feet above sea level. This Valley is full of historical places and culture. you can visit places like Shigar Fort, Gulabpur Bridge, Amburik Mosque, Bissel (Garam Chasma) and so on. The place is famous for hiking and trekking.
8. Khaplu Valley:
The beauty of Khaplu Valley is undeniable. It is 8533 feet above sea level. In autumn this valley becomes more attractive and shines like gold. This valley also has its own history. Here you can also visit places like Khaplu Palace and chaqchan Mosque.
